DIRECTOR, EMILY WEINSTEIN, AND CITY ADMINISTRATOR JOHNSON
RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING GREGORY D. GARRETT FOR HIS
30 YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE CITY OF OAKLAND
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett is currently the Development/Redevelopment Program Manager for the Housing and Community Development Department’s Community Development and Engagement division for the City of Oakland (“City”) and manages and oversees the internal operations and programs of the division, such as the City’s HUD grant awards, HOPWA and HOME Programs, homelessness prevention, fair housing and eviction defense programs; and
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett was first hired as an Intern with the City of Oakland as an intern with the Community & Economic Development Agency (CEDA) Emergency Housing (EH) Unit, the Homeless Services division of the Department of Human Services on June 14, 1994; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, Gregory D. Garrett was hired as a Public Service Employee and held several positions over 20 years including Housing Development Coordinator for Homeless Services where he provided oversight of HIV/AIDS, Homeless, Food Distribution, Payment Processing, Contracting and Reporting.
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett went on to become a Community Development Program Coordinator and subsequently the CDBG Acting Manager; and
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett was promoted on December 10, 2016 to Development/Redevelopment Program Manager for the Community Development and Engagement division of the Housing and Community Development Department; and
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett was beloved by the Housing and Community Development Department and the Community Development and Engagement team for his steady and calm demeanor, his patience, his empathy, and his leadership; and
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett is a dedicated public servant, a talented gospel singer, a loving father and husband, and a self-proclaimed foodie; and

WHEREAS, Gregory D. Garrett plans to spend time with his dear wife Joelle Thompson- Garrett and focus on relaxing, traveling, taking piano lessons and becoming a certified barber;
RESOLVED, that Gregory D. Garrett has served the City of Oakland exceptionally well and will be dearly missed by his friends and colleagues; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council recognizes Gregory D. Garrett for his service to the City of Oakland.
