Please tell us how your qualifications and participation will relate to the requested board and/or commission's mission.
I have lived in Oakland for 11 years and have frequently taken note of the abundant history embedded in residential neighborhoods, downtown commercial districts, and in our parks and recreational spaces. Since 2018, I have worked on an open source software (free, public intellectual property rights) dedicated to historic preservation and cultural heritage management. That software is called the Arches Project. Since then, I have worked alongside historic preservation planners in Los Angeles, West Hollywood, the United Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Jordan to focus on bringing historic preservation into the 21st century. This vantage has given me both a deepened appreciation for historic preservation as well as a vantage point to learn more about the processes and day to day operation (and challenges) of historic preservation. Given my experience and interests, I would be excited to serve on this board and collaborate with our city's planning department to facilitate greater awareness of Oakland historic landmarks as well as serve the duties of the board in advising on the city's historic preservation program.

RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE MAYOR’S APPOINTMENT OF
GALEN MANCINO AS A MEMBER OF THE
LANDMARKS PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARD
WHEREAS, Section 601 of the City Charter provides that members of City boards and commissions shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the affirmative vote of five members of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 192 C.M.S. created the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board, whose members are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council pursuant to Section 601 of the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board consists of seven members including but not limited to Landscape Architect or City Planner, Oakland Historian or Architectural Historian, Real Estate Broker, and Architect, whose members of the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board are to serve three year terms, which are to be staggered so that some appointments will expire every year, and appointments to fill a term of office are only to be for the remainder of that term; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Mayor Sheng Thao appoints Galen Mancino to the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board for the terms stated below; now, therefore, be it
