MEMORANDUM DATE: November 25, 2024 TO: City Council and Members of the Public FROM: Councilmember Treva Reid SUBJECT: Adopt A Resolution Recognizing Stephan and Ayesha Curry and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation For Their Dedication To Enhancing The Well-Being Of Oakland Youth And Through The Remodeling Of Playground Structures And Providing Access To Nutrition, Literacy, And Physical Activity Opportunities Since 2019 Dear City Council Colleagues and Members of the Public, This resolution seeks to recognize and honor Stephen and Ayesha Curry and their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation for their extraordinary contributions to the City of Oakland. Since its launch in 2019, the Foundation has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to Oakland’s youth through a holistic approach that prioritizes children’s nutritional, educational, and physical health needs. The Foundation has spearheaded the renovation of 17 school and community play spaces. Recognizing the need for quality and accessible playgrounds, the Curry’s have championed the creation of safe and engaging recreational areas that not only promote physical health among Oakland’s youth but also foster a sense of belonging. Beyond physical health, the Foundation has made a profound impact on educational opportunities for Oakland’s children. By raising $6 million for literacy programs, the Curry’s have empowered students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and pursue educational success. Additionally, the Foundation has delivered 25 million meals to Oakland youth, ensuring reliable access to nutritious and healthy food. Through these comprehensive efforts, the Curry’s and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation have addressed systemic inequalities and provided vital support to Oakland families. This resolution acknowledges and honors Stephen and Ayesha Curry and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation for their collective contributions to improving the lives of Oakland’s youth. It also seeks to inspire broader community engagement and support for the city’s children.

I respectfully request that the Council pass this resolution to celebrate and uplift these true community champions. For any questions regarding this report, please contact Haley Hester, Chief of Staff, at [email protected]. Yours in Service, Treva Reid Councilmember District 7 #OAKLANDLOVELIFE
