Last modified: 5/28/24
I. Introduction
As part of adoption of the Oakland Environmental Justice (EJ) Element in September 2023, the Oakland City Council directed the City Administrator to organize and develop an interagency working group, including the Port of Oakland, to implement the air quality actions outlined in the EJ Element. The Oakland Pollution Reduction Interagency Working Group (Working Group) will convene members of local and regional agencies whose work and expertise are key to achieving the air quality policies and actions outlined in the EJ Element.
The air quality policies and action in Oakland’s EJ Element fall under Goal 1: “Reduce Pollution, Mitigate the Impacts of Pollution on Existing Sensitive Land Uses, and Eliminate Associated Public Health Disparities.” There are 19 policies and 14 actions which require the coordination of various City of Oakland departments and outside agencies.
The goals of the Working Group are to:
1. Collaborate and support one another in completion of policies and actions to meet the pollution reduction goal in Oakland’s EJ Element through information / data sharing, maximizing funding opportunities, and coordination in shared objectives.
