RESOLUTION ELECTING COUNCILMEMBER __________ AS
PRESIDENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OAKLAND
FOR THE TERM BEGINNING JANUARY 6, 2025 AND ENDING
JANUARY 4, 2027 PURSUANT TO OAKLAND CITY CHARTER
SECTION 208
WHEREAS, Oakland City Charter section 208 provides in relevant part: “At 11:00 a.m. on the first Monday following January 2 following each General Municipal Election, the Council shall meet at the established Council meeting place, at which t ime and place the newly elected members of the Council shall assume the duties of their office; and at such meeting, and at its first meeting in January of each odd-numbered year, the Council shall, by resolution, elect a Council President from among its members to serve for a two-year term.”; and WHEREAS, the first Monday following January 2, 2025 is January 6; and WHEREAS, Rule 6 of the Council’s Rules of Procedure, established by Re solution No. 90066 C.M.S., provides that “The President of the Council shall serve as the presiding officer of the City Council and shall perform the following duties:
Chair Regular Meetings and Special Meetings of the City Council; Manage the Office of the City C ouncil and present the budget of the Office of the City Council for adoption;
Appoint Council committee members and chairpersons of committees in accordance with Rule 4 of these Rules of Procedure;
Except for those appointments reserved for the Mayor pursuant t o the City Charter or other enabling legislation, the President of the Council sha ll recommend appointments to regional and local boards and agencies, as appr opriate, subject to confirmation by Council resolution.”;
now, therefore, be it
R E S O L V E D : That Councilmember ___________________ is elected President of the City Council of the City of Oakland for the term beginning Janu ary 6, 2025 and ending January 4, 2027 in accordance with Charter section 208 and Rule 6 of th e City Council’s Rules of Procedure, established by Resolution No. 90066 C.M.S.
