Colleagues on the City Council and Members of the Public, Honoring Beebe Memorial Cathedral is essential because of its historic, spiritual, and community impact over the past 100 years. As the first Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Oakland, it has provided unwavering spiritual guidance, fostering faith and unity among generations of residents. Beyond worship, Beebe has been a strong advocate for social justice, education, and economic empowerment, playing a crucial role in uplifting local communities. Through youth mentorship, educational initiatives, and leadership development, the church has empowered countless individuals, shaping future leaders in Oakland.

Beebe Memorial Cathedral has also been a pillar of support during times of crisis, offering resources such as food assistance, and emergency aid. Its rich history, including its architectural and cultural significance, reflects resilience and dedication to community well-being. As Beebe reaches its 100-year milestone, it stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and service. Honoring this legacy not only recognizes its past contributions but also inspires continued efforts to serve and strengthen the Oakland community for generations to come.

Thank you!

Respectfully submitted,

Councilmember Unger
