SUBJECT: Michael Morgan Commemorative Street Renaming
Dear Council Colleagues and Community,
The attached resolution approves the commemorative renaming of 21st Street between Broadway and Telegraph Avenue as ‘Michael Morgan Way’ in honor of the late Michael Morgan, a trailblazing conductor and visionary artistic leader.
Michael Morgan served as the Director and Conductor of the Oakland Symphony for over 30 years until his passing in August , 2021. Through his extraordinary musical contributions, leadership, and commitment to social justice, Michael has left an indelible impact on Oakland’s cultural life, inspiring generations of musicians, audiences, and young people.
Thank you for your support in honoring the extraordinary life and legacy of Michael Morgan.
