RE: Reappointment of One Member and Appointment of Four New Members to the Public Art Advisory Commission
The Mayor's Office respectfully requests that City Council consider the reappointment of one current member to the Public Art Advisory Commission, whose term expires on November 15, 2025, as well as the appointment of four new members to fill existing vacancies.
The Public Art Advisory Commission continues to play a vital role in enhancing our city's visual landscape through careful oversight of public art installations, artist selection processes, and community-centered public art initiatives. Maintaining an experienced commissioner ensures continuity in ongoing public art projects and consistency in artistic vision and quality standards, while bringing in new voices will enhance the commission's diversity of perspectives and creative expertise.
Proposed Actions:
• Reappoint one qualified commissioner for a new term
• Appoint four new members to fill vacant commission seats • Maintain institutional knowledge while introducing fresh artistic perspectives • Ensure full commission capacity for upcoming public art projects and installations Next Steps: The Mayor's Office will present both the reappointment and new appointment recommendations at the next Council meeting. We greatly appreciate any support you can provide in expediting this process and welcome the Council's prompt consideration of these appointments and reappointment.

I come to this work both as an artist and as someone who has several years of experience working with the public, both in the arts and not and as someone who has lived and worked in the bay area for over 25 years. I have been involved in both the art and music scene as well as working to preserve some historic properties from development by utilizing the unique ways they have contributed to the art scene in the neighborhoods they are in. I have 7+ years of collections and public art experience from working as a preparator at various museums across the bay area along with being an artist myself working with mostly textiles and paintings. I have also worked for 20+ years in restaurants and bars. So I come to this with a unique perspective of understanding why people feel certain ways about their spaces, their immediate areas. and their need to show the vibrancy of the area they live in through art.
