CAPRINE (GOATS) STAFF, AS THE ORGANIZATION EXECUTES ITS CONTRACTUAL

AGREEMENTS WITH THE CITY OF OAKLAND, DESIGNED TO MITIGATE THE RISK OF

WILDFIRES BY DEPLOYING HUNDREDS OF GRAZING GOATS INTO HIGH-RISK FIRE

ZONES, TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF HAZARDOUS VEGETATION
DATE: September 30th, 2025

Colleagues on the City Council and Members of the Public,

We are honored to bring forth this resolution to celebrate the work that Ecosystems Concepts Inc, it’s herders and caprine staff do. Oakland is a city that has seen firsthand the danger of wildfires. In 1991, the Tunnel Fire burned through the Oakland Hills, killing 25, and injuring another 150 people. This year, we saw again t he dangers that fires pose to our communities with the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles. It is crucial that Oakland have a robust vegetation management plan that focuses on mitigating the risk of wildfires.

Oakland is proud to partner with Ecosystems Concepts Inc. to manage the vegetation and prevent another wildfire like the Tunnel Fire. As you drive through the Oakland Hills, you many see a large herd of Goats grazing.

This is no accident. These goats are there to eat vegetation that could serve as fuel for another wildfire. These goats are crucial to protecting our homes and our lives and it is our honor to recognize the job that is done by everyone involved in this work.

Thank you!

Respectfully submitted,
