RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING COUNCILMEMBER KEN
HOUSTON TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON, D.C. ON OCTOBER 25,
2025, TO ATTEN D THE LEAGUE OF MINORITY VOTERS,
INAUGURAL AWARDS & FUNDRAISING GALA AND
DESIGNATING COUNCILMEMBER KEN HOUSTON AS THE
CITY’S REPRESENTATIVE
WHEREAS, the City of Oakland is home to more than 50% Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and Council District 7 in the City of Oakland is comprised of a majority minority population; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Ken Houston seeks to establish a strategic partnership with The League of Minority Voters on behalf of the City of Oakland; and
WHEREAS, The League of Minority Voters extended an invitation to Councilmember Ken Houston to attend the organization’s Inaugural Awards & Fundraising Gala; and
WHEREAS, City Council Resolution No. 82800 C.M.S. approved by Council on June 1, 2010, establishes a policy that Councilmembers, when seeking Council approval for travel, shall indicate whether City funds will be used when travel involves airline transportation and lodging and of the cost of airline, lodging, per diem and conference fees when City funds are used as well as the source of City and/or Redevelopment Agency funding that will be used to cover the travel; and
WHEREAS, in compliance with Resolution No. 82800 C.M.S., the estimated cost for Councilmember Ken Houston is $1,400 with up to $300 for airfare, lodging of $450, a per diem of $69/day for 2 days, and $500 for registration fees, the source of City funding used to cover the travel costs will be from City Council Contingency Project fund; and
WHEREAS, Councilmember Ken Houston seek s City Council approval of the aforementioned costs to travel to Washington, D.C. to attend t he Leagu e Of Minority Voters, Inaugural Awards & Fundraising Gala; now, therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED: That Councilmember Ken Houston is authorized to travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the League Of Minority Voters, Inaugural Awards & Fundraising Gala , and all expenses incurred for said travel are hereby authorized.
