SUBJECT: Receive An Informational Report From Andy Wang On Illegal Dumping, And Commending Him For Working To Keep Oakland Clean
SUMMARY
This item recognizes Andy Wang “Pengweather”, a volunteer who has made extraordinary contributions to the cleanliness and livability of our city by organizing and personally conducting extensive illegal dumping cleanups across multiple neighborhoods.
The report highlights Andy Wang’s sustained volunteer work, which has removed tons of debris from Oakland streets, built partnerships with community members, and inspired others to take action. It also underscores the importance of civic engagement and community pride in addressing one of Oakland’s most persistent quality-of-life challenges.
BACKGROUND
Illegal dumping remains a significant issue across Oakland, affecting neighborhood safety, public health, and resident morale. While the City continues to expand its enforcement and abatement programs, dedicated community volunteers have been essential partners in addressing this problem.
Andy has emerged as one of Oakland’s most active and visible community cleanup leaders.
Through regular volunteer efforts, coordination with neighbors, and collaboration with City departments and local organizations, he has removed waste and hazardous materials from dozens of sites citywide, often at his own expense.
