SUBJECT: Informational Report Of The City Programs Responding To Domestic Violence
RECOMMENDATION: Request an informational report regarding the city’s response to domestic violence.
SUMMARY: Domestic violence is an ongoing and severe public safety and public health challenge effecting many Oaklanders. Providing a comprehensive and transparent report on the city’s efforts to address these issues is a vital tool for policy improvement, survivor protection, and community empowerment in Oakland.
BACKGROUND: The City of Oakland faces challenges related to domestic violence, the City of Oakland receives thousands of reports of domestic violence offenses each year, including hundreds involving weapons. The last report of related to this matter was produced in 2017 by the city’s Department of Violence Prevention.
