forts in Hollywood.
“In my line of work, Black
women are too often thought of
last—if we’re considered at all,”
said Kamlager-Dove. “Storytell -
ing isn’t extra - it is essential… so
we can drive real, informed solu-
tions.”
Akil added, “Reproductive
health begins when we can make
women, young girls, and boys feel
safe… When people feel seen and
supported, they can tell the truth,
grow, and make choices without
shame.”

former member of Congress, brings
sharp, combative energy.

Maybe too sharp.

Her campaign has reinforced an
image of academic elitism: a “bad
boss” moment with a staffer, a tense
exchange with a reporter. At the de-
bate, she tried to recalibrate, but the
impression lingers.

That’s not boring.

Finally, Tom Steyer—always
“billionaire Tom Steyer.”
Strip away the money, and
what’s left?
His campaign leans on heavy
advertising and curated messag -
ing, often featuring everyday peo-
ple vouching for him. It helps—but
only so much.

Where Does That Leave Voters?
V oters want someone who
understands how government
works—and how to make it work.

That comes down to experi -
ence.

California is complex, diverse,
and massive—over 16 million His-
panics alone, about 41% of the pop-
ulation.

Who reflects that reality?
Among the candidates, Becerra
arguably comes closest—not just
demographically, but in experience
and temperament.

I met him years ago when he
was a young congressman and I
was working for Norm Mineta.

He was earnest. Steady. Boring.

In 2026, that might be exactly
what California needs.
