A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE MAYOR'S REAPPOINTMENT OF
HELEN BULWIK TO THE WILDFIRE PREVENTION COMMISSION
WHEREAS, Section 601 of the City Charter provides that members of City boards and commissions shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the affirmative vote of five members of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, on June 3rd, 2025, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 13846 C.M.S., establishing the Wildfire Prevention Commission; providing for the appointment of members thereof, and defining the duties and functions of said Commission; and
WHEREAS, it is the duty and function of the Commission to advise on the implementation of a comprehensive Vegetation Management Plan; review the annual operational use of the Special Tax proceeds in reducing wildfire risk; make advisory recommendations to the City Council regarding the use of funds including policy recommendations to further wildfire prevention efforts; study best practices from other jurisdictions, participate in regional wildfire prevention forums, and support outreach and public educatio n efforts in the Wildfire Prevention Zone and citywide; and receive informational reports from City staff on annual expenditures and on measures taken under the Vegetation Management Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Wildfire Prevention Commission consists of seven (7) members serving staggered terms ranging from one to three years, who are nominated by the Mayor and appointed by Council, and who must be residents of the city of Oakland, having resided in Oakland for thirty (30) days prior to appointment; and
WHEREAS, on July 15, 2025, the City C ouncil confirmed th e appointment of Helen Bulwik to serve an initial term on one year beginning July 16, 2015, and ending July 15, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor seeks to reappoint Helen Bulwik to a second term of three years; now, therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED: That pursuant to City Charter section 601, the City Council hereby confirms the Mayor's appointment to the Wildfire Prevention Commission of the following:
Helen Bulwik, to serve a three -year term beginning July 16, 2026, and ending July 15, 2029.
