INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER WANG
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY BILL 1588 (STEFANI) – VEHICLES: SIDESHOW ENHANCEMENTS

WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1588, authored by Asse mblymember Catherine Stefani, would strengthen the state’s sideshow enforcemen t framework by: authorizing courts to issue warrants for the immediate seizure and impoundment of vehicles used in sideshow offenses; expanding the sideshow framework to cover moto rbikes and dirt bikes; making bodily injury during a sideshow and repeat sideshow convictions wobblers chargeable as either a misdemeanor or felony; and declaring vehicles used in sideshows a public nuisance subject to forfeiture upon conviction; and
WHEREAS, these reforms would close critical enforcement gaps, increase accountability for chronic offenders, and provide Oakland law enforcement with proportionate tools to address the most dangerous forms of sideshow conduct; and
