SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Results of the Canvass of the November 5, 2024 General Election in Oakley
Background and Analysis
On June 11, 2024, the City Council adopted Resolution 80-24 calling the General Election for one City Councilmember in District 1, one City Councilmember in District 3, and one City Councilmember in District 5, all for 4-year terms. During the nomination period, only one person in each Districts 1 and 3 was nominated and qualified as a candidate, Aaron Meadows and Anissa Williams, respectively.
Pursuant to Elections Code § 10229, the Council appointed Aaron Meadows to District 1 and Anissa Williams to District 3. Three people were nominated and qualified as candidates for District 5, George Fuller, Cristina Pena Langley, and Oleksii Chuiko1.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the General Election was conducted by the Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters. The County Clerk’s official canvass of the Election has been completed. George Fuller has been elected to serve a full, four-year term of office as City of Oakley Councilmember for District 5.
California Elections Code Section 10263 states that upon completion of the canvass of results by the County and prior to installation of the officer, the City Council shall adopt a resolution reciting the facts of the Election and declaring the result. For the City Council’s consideration, attached is a proposed resolution accepting the Certificate of County Clerk as to the Results of the Canvass of the City of Oakley November 5, 2024 General Election.
