BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS:

At the December 17, 2024 City Council Meeting, the City Council requested a study session on the future of Jay Littleton Ball Park.

Built in 1937, Jay Littleton Ball Park was a historic venue featuring a U-shaped grandstand with exterior wooden siding that accommodated 3,500 spectators. On August 22, 2024, the historic Jay Littleton Ball Park succumbed to a fire in the late-night hours.

Beginning in 2020, the Jay Littleton Ball Park was closed for Baseball permits due to the condition of the wooden bleachers. While awaiting repair of the wooden bleachers, the outfield and dugouts were utilized for a TV commercial and occasional outdoor events that strictly incorporated the turf outfield.

Prior to the fire, the historic ballfield was a cherished community landmark. It hosted various activities, including local Little League games, film and television production, and small-scale special events hosted by the Ontario Recreation & Community Services Department. The iconic Jay Littleton Ball Park was a monumental piece of history in Ontario.

During this study session, Staff will present three conceptual plans for the Jay Littleton Ball Park at John Galvin Park. Each option offers unique advantages and challenges, particularly related to programming potential. The historic conceptual design maintains the site's culture, with a focus on 3 baseball. The community center offers robust programming potential, and the multi-purpose fields provide flexibility for various sports and revenue generation. 4
