6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The City utilizes Storage Area Network (SAN) equipment in its Civic Center, Police Department, and Traffic Operations locations. Each of the five SANs has a five-year useful life, expiring in various years, with an accompanying service plan, and the equipment is designated to act as a primary or backup system, to maximize data coverage and protection.

Last month, the City Council approved a support agreement for both Civic Center and Police Department Storage Area Network (SAN) environments. The Civic Center SAN will have reached its end of support in March and, as the equipment itself was approaching end of life, it was scheduled for replacement in the next fiscal year. Sidepath, Inc. had worked out an arrangement with Dell to provide “best effort” support until that time.

Subsequent to the approval of last month’s support agreement, IT staff was able to work with City of Orange Printed on 2/3/2022Page 1 of 2

Subsequent to the approval of last month’s support agreement, IT staff was able to work with Sidepath to specify the replacement SAN equipment and identify funding to allow the equipment to be replaced this fiscal year.

The new SAN will provide significantly improved performance and includes five years of continued support. Sidepath has extended NASPO pricing and will also be covering the remaining two months of support from Dell while we transition to the new SAN.

IT staff has submitted the request for purchase order to only include the support for the Orange PD SAN support saving $19,118 from the agreement approved at the January 11th Council meeting.
