Disclaimer re statistics:

For Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) reporting purposes, crimes are counted on the first date the crime may have occurred. For Department of Justice (DOJ) purposes, crimes are counted for the date they are reported, even when they occur during a prior month or year. The CAU reports o ne crime for each event or incident. For DOJ reporting, the Records Bureau counts the number of victims for each case. For example, if a suspect hits five victims during an assault, five counts of assault are reported.
