1. SUBJECT
Appropriation of $1,000 in designated grant funding received from Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature.
2. SUMMARY
Grant funds from Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature will be used to enhance and expand the Library’s programming and resources for children, teens, and adults.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. Accept into the City’s revenue budget $1,000 in grant funds from Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature into revenue account number 100.2001.45495.30199, General Fund - #PlantWildflowers Initiative Grant.
2. Authorize the appropriation of $1,000 into expenditure account number 100.2016.53340.30199 General Fund - #PlantWildflowers Initiative Grant.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
The total appropriation for these grants is funded by the additional revenue received from Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature.
5. STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS
Goal 3: Enhance and promote quality of life in the community e: Develop and strengthen collaborative partnerships to enhance and promote quality of life programs, projects and services.
6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Orange Public Library has been awarded a #PlantWildflowers Initiative Grant for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 (FY22). Tangled Bank Studios and PBS Nature have generously provided funding to develop environmentally-themed programs and displays at the 3 Library locations. The Library will partner on programming with local community groups including Orange Home Grown, UCCE Master Gardeners of Orange County, UCCE Master Food Preservers OC, Backyard Bees, and California Native Plant Society. Programs will focus on the importance of pollinators in the community, and attendees will learn about beekeeping and various uses of honey and beeswax. Participants will also receive free regional wildflower seed packets and seedlings to encourage planting of native gardens.
