The Water Division has retained Gevork Consulting Engineering, Inc. to complete the design of plans and specifications for replacement of the emergency generator and automatic transfer switch. Plans and specifications for this project call for furnishing and installing one 100KW/125KVA, 120/240V emergency power generator and one 225A, 240V automatic transfer switch. attenuated generator will comply with the City’scurrent noise standard and be equipped with spill control and secondary containment storage tanks situated aboveground atop a concrete pad to prevent potential leakage during an emergency or operational maintenance. The generator fuel tank capacity is designed for 24 hours of continuous operation.

The total estimated construction cost including 10% for contingencies and construction engineering is $170,000.

This project is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act CEQA Guidelines Section 15301, Class 1- Existing Facilities. This exemption applies to minor alterations to existing public or private structure or facilities, involving negligible or no expansion of the existing use. The project falls within this exemption because it involves replacing an existing emergency generator and existing automatic transfer unit. The purpose of the generator is to ensure that electricity is available to power existing Water Division Offices during an emergency event. Therefore, the project does not expand the existing use.
