Discussion
In January 2022, the California Building Standards Commission adopted the new building codes for the State. All local jurisdictions in California are required to update their local building codes by adopting or amending the State Codes to become effective January 1, 2023. Ordinance No. 06-22 includes adoption of the new building codes with our local amendments.
The most significant changes in the current version of the State Building Codes are again related to energy efficiency and green building requirements.
The Public Works Department is recommending minor changes and modifications be made along with adoption of the State Codes because the changes and modifications are reasonably necessary due to local conditions in the City of Orange. Other minor modifications are of an administrative or procedural nature and pertain to subjects that are not covered by the State Codes or are reasonably City of Orange Printed on 10/5/2022Page 2 of 3
