6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides for continuous uninterrupted power to the critical operational functioning for the Police Department’sdispatch center. An existing 24 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) Liebert UPS and 16kVA APC UPS have reached their end of life. These two UPS will be replaced with a single 20 kVA Toshiba UPS.
The consolidation to one UPS is due to many changes that have occurred to the equipment used for the dispatch area, and which no longer require the same electrical capacity. This work includes altering the electrical to accommodate the change from a two-UPS setup to a single-UPS setup, as well as to introduce a mechanical electrical by-pass for UPS servicing. The consolidation to a single smaller scale UPS is a cost effective and reliable solution.

maintenance services to the City since 2009. In 2018, Odyssey was awarded the contract to supply preventative maintenance services through a competitive bid process. Staff are satisfied with their competency, quality of work, and familiarity with the City’s operating environment. As the City’s single source provider of UPS, as well as their proximity to the City of Orange allowing timely response to emergency maintenance issues, staff recommends continuance of Odyssey’sservices to furnish and install the recommended Toshiba 4400 UPS.
