publicly advertised for two weeks. The bids were opened on March 9, 2023. Two bidders responded as follows:
1. South Coast Industrial Doors, Inc. $328,680
2. National Garage Door $360,800
The proposed vendor, South Coast Industrial Doors, Inc. has an excellent reputation in the industry and has provided a competitive bid to replace the existing doors. Their bid is about 23% lower than the Engineer’sEstimate of $430,000. Staff checked the references and qualifications and found them acceptable, with adequate years of experience in completing contracts of similar nature to this project. Therefore, staff recommends awarding the contract for $377,982 which includes a 15% contingency to South Coast Industrial Doors, Inc.
This project will replace two garage bay doors at the Corporation Yard Fleet Building and six at Fire Stations 3, 5, and 6.
The rolling garage doors listed above have been used for over a decade and, in the past five years, have seen an increase in service and repairs and have even become inoperable. As a result, it is difficult for city personnel to operate them. The doors are essential for safely storing city vehicles and equipment and must function properly.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2023 and is expected to be completed by July 2023.
