6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
Well 28 is located at 225 W. Maple Street, in the Old Towne area of the City of Orange. In addition to constructing a well, the site will also include a public pocket park surrounding the perimeter of the well facility. At its March 14, 2023 meeting, the City Council approved the plans and specifications for the project and authorized the Public Works Department to solicit construction bids.

During this item, the City Council discussed providing parameters for names for the future park.

Possible parameters could include a connection to the Cypress Barrio, a significant historical figure from that area, etc. Community Services staff will then work with the Park Planning and Community Events Commission (Commission) to solicit input for potential name options based on those parameters. The Commission has recently developed a process for collecting input for names of future parks.

Based on the input received, the Commission would then present the City Council with three potential name options for consideration, as the selection of the name of the park is left to the discretion of the City Council.

At this time, staff is recommending that the City Council provide naming parameters for the future City of Orange Printed on 4/6/2023Page 1 of 2
