section of the fountain basin and damaged some of the adjacent historic tile on the interior and exterior of the basin. In order to ensure a historically appropriate repair of the basin and refurbishment of the fountain as a whole, the Community Services Department intends to engage Chattel, Inc., Historic Preservation Consultants (Chattel) to provide guidance on the reconstruction and repair of the basin including selection of materials, method of installation, and finish details. The scope of services also includes guidance related to conservation of historic building materials such as appropriate methods of cleaning and caring for tile and metal fountain structure.
In addition to the $15,000 scope of work for the fountain, the First Amendment to the Chattel agreement includes $30,000 for contract historic preservation planning services for the Community Development Department. The Department has engaged Chattel over the past year to provide extension of staff services and peer review given its vacant Historic Preservation Planner position.
The volume of project work related to the City’sOld Towne and Eichler Historic Districts warrants staff support as the Department recruits to fill the vacant position.
