6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Annual Slurry Seal Project at Various Locations Fiscal Year 2023-2024 (FY 24) is part of the City’sFY 24 Annual Street Maintenance activities and is designed to prolong pavement life of city streets. Rehabilitation methods vary depending on the sustained damage, but in general, consist of slurry seal with localized areas of pavement reconstruction as needed. The rehabilitated pavement will have a longer service life and will provide a safe and smooth ride for the public.
The streets selected for maintenance in accordance with the City’sPavement Management Plan, generally fall into the “fair”category and require work at this time to prevent pavement deterioration and higher cost for asphalt concrete overlay in the future.
The total cost for street slurry seal is estimated at $590,000, including 15% for construction engineering and contingency. Upon receipt of public bids, staff will return to the City Council and City of Orange Printed on 7/20/2023Page 1 of 2
