6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Police Department is temporarily using a reconfigured Explorer patrol vehicle to transport prisoners; however, the Explorer has reached the end of its useful life. The proposed replacement Jailer Van will include secure compartments, robust restraint systems, an advanced CCTV system, climate control, ventilation systems, and a customized layout that meets varying transport needs while complying with relevant regulations. An estimated cost for the acquisition, including the CCTV system integration, has been provided, and by using the Sourcewell cooperative agreement, significant cost savings are anticipated. Integrating modern technology has brought many benefits to transporting individuals in custody, including improved safety measures and enhanced documentation of interactions. Such advancements have vastly improved transportation management, making it a more secure and efficient process for all involved. Proceeding with this acquisition will significantly enhance public safety and the efficiency of law enforcement operations in City of Orange Printed on 1/4/2024Page 1 of 2
