6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Economic Development Strategy that was presented to City Council in October 2023 included a goal to develop a shop local program in partnership with the Orange Chamber of Commerce. Shop local programs highlight the community benefits of residents choosing to shop at local businesses.
These benefits include supporting local investment, jobs, and funding for municipal services such as police, fire, parks, and libraries. The shop local program for the City of Orange is branded as Experience Orange: Shop Local - Support Community.
In March 2024, the City Council approved an agreement with Bludot Technologies, Inc. for their shop local rewards mobile application. Bludot’s Open Rewards shop local app allows members of the community to earn cash-back rewards whenever they shop locally. Residents can choose to link the app to a payment card to earn rewards automatically, or upload photos of receipts. This presentation serves as the formal launch of the Open Rewards app, along with the launch of the Experience Orange branding for the shop local program.
