Re: September 10 Agenda Item 9.2
This memo is to provide additional information regarding the Crossing Guard Program (Program) as related to the above-mentioned item.  Based on prior year staffing levels and the inability to consistently fill vacancies, the total FY25 budget for the Program was $425,000. The full Program is comprised of 41 School Crossing Guard positions, and one School Crossing Guard Supervisor.
 The budget for the Program consists solely of salaries and benefits. The rate per crossing guard at top step is $19.40 per hour. Crossing guards are assigned to work 4 hours per day 5 days a week, totaling approximately 700 hours per school year. The total cost per crossing guard at top step is approximately $14,250 which includes $13,580 for salary and $670 for benefits, assuming they work assigned schedules totaling 700 hours.
 During FY24, the Orange Police Department had approximately 19 active crossing guards for a total cost of $254,272. The crossing guard supervisor position remained vacant during FY24. Any remaining balances at the end of each fiscal year are returned to the General Fund (100).
 At the end of June 30, 2024, the Orang Police Department had 17 active crossing guards who received notice of the discontinuance of the Program.
