Authorize purchase of mobile routers for Orange Police Department patrol cars from CDCE, Inc.
2. SUMMARY
Purchase 40 R980 Cradlepoint routers and antennas for police vehicles from CDCE, Inc. through NASPO Valuepoint Master Agreement AR3189, Addendum No. 7-20-70-47-02.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve the purchase of Cradlepoint routers and antennas from CDCE, Inc. for $65,481.49.
4. FISCAL IMPACT
The expense for this purchase is $65,481.49 and will be funded in General Fund (100), formerly Information Technology Fund (780):
100-1601-56999 Other Repair / Maintenance Services

6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The City has historically recorded the information technology expenses in the Information Technology (IT) Fund, with the General Fund serving as the primary funding source for IT operations. To enhance transparency and strengthen financial management, the IT Fund has now been consolidated into the General Fund.
The City’spolice vehicles currently use Cradlepoint routers for network communications. The network communications support the vehicle computer communications as well as video uploads of in-car video. The current Cradlepoint routers are over five years old and are approaching end-of-life. The new routers will support 5G communications which offers much higher speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity than the existing 4G routers. Replacement of these routers will improve communications speed and ensure continued operations for several years in police patrol vehicles.
