Proclamation
Honoring
Old Towne Preservation Association
40th Anniversary
WHEREAS, the Old Towne Preservation Association (OTPA) was established in February of 1986 in the City of Orange as a non-profit organization with the mission to protect, preserve, and enhance the historic character and unique charm of Old Towne Orange; and
WHEREAS, OTPA was initially formed by a small group of dedicated residents as an emergency measure to halt the demolition of historic homes, and for the past four decades has served as a guardian of our City’s historic and cultural resources that define our shared past; and WHEREAS, in 1997, OTPA petitioned the State of California to designate Old Towne Orange as a Residential Historic District, placing it on the National Registry of Historic Places and officially establishing it as the largest contiguous residential historic district in the State of California; and WHEREAS, this year, we join OTPA in celebrating its 40 th anniversary; commemorating the extensive work of its members in leading educational initiatives, fostering community involvement, carrying out service projects, hosting memorable events, and raising funds; and WHEREAS, through its advocacy, outreach, and volunteer efforts, OTPA has helped maintain Old Towne as a living example of thoughtful preservation and community life—a place where history, commerce, and culture harmoniously thrive; and
WHEREAS, we invite all residents to join in recognizing OTPA for forty years of unwavering commitment to preserving the architectural and historical integrity of our beloved Old Towne and for its significant contributions to our city’s identity and legacy.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dan Slater, Mayor of the City of Orange, and the entire City Council, do hereby congratulate the Old Towne Preservation Association on its 40th anniversary, and encourage all residents to honor its decades of service, advocacy, and devotion to the preservation of our historic community.

DATED this 10th day of February 2026.
