Recognizing
July 2026 as “Parks Make Life Better® Month”
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation promotes physical, emotional, and mental health and wellness through organized and self-directed fitness, play, and activity that foster social connections, and provide safe and welcoming spaces for families, youth, seniors, and visitors; and WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation creates memorable experiences through youth and adult sports and enrichment activities, teen centers and programs, senior activity centers, adult fitness, and enrichment programs, and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Parks, recreation programs, trails, open spaces, and community services play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages in the City of Orange; and WHEREAS, the City of Orange is committed to preserving its parks, recreational facilities, and community programs that enrich the lives of residents and contribute to the character and vitality of our community; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation services support environmental stewardship, conservation, economic vitality, and community resilience by providing access to nature, encouraging active transportation, and creating opportunities for civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, the annual “Parks Make Life Better!®” campaign, sponsored by the California Park & Recreation Society, highlights the essential role that parks and recreation professionals play in building healthy, vibrant, and connected communities throughout California; and WHEREAS, the City of Orange recognizes and appreciates the dedication and service of parks and recreation staff, community partners, and advocates who work year-round to provide exceptional programs, facilities, and public spaces for all residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dan Slater, Mayor of the City of Orange, on behalf of the entire Orange City Council, do hereby proclaim, July 2026 as “Parks Make Life Better!® Month” in the City of Orange and encourage all residents to enjoy and support our parks, trails, and recreation programs that contribute to a healthier, happier, and more connected community.
