REPORTS / DISCUSSIONS

1. Council Announcements and Reports
Council Member Goodson: Discussed miscommunications on Facebook regarding the City’s finances. The City has an operating budget deficit of 2.5 million dollars, but there is 9 million dollars in the reserve fund. The deficit was caused by several pressures happening all at once including receiving grant funding that is not sustainable long term, flattening of sales tax revenues, the contract with CalFire for the 66 hour work week increased the costs to staffing, the cost of living and public safety costs has all gone up, but the City is not broke.

Vice Mayor Smith: Announced Samon Festival is on September 26th. Feather River Parks District will have a cleanup set for September 19th. Enterprise Tribe is bringing back Friday Night Salmon dinner on September 25th.

Mayor Pittman: Agreed with Council Member Goodson that the City is not broke. Western Cities Magazine contacted him and would like to do an article on the City of Oroville. The City met the requirement for in regard to housing, so they’d like to discuss how the City is able to maintain it when other cities are fined for failing. Southside Community Center held a conference with nine counties on ways to improve their cities.

Council Member Reynolds: Stated CalFire initially saved city 1.1 million dollars per year.

He states that there is still a savings of 400 thousand dollars annually even with the 66-hour work week contract.
