[email protected]> Cc: Chaparro, Rose <[email protected]>, <[email protected]> Madam City Clerk,
Please pass along these written comments to the Mayor and Council members and include my comments in the official record of proceedings for this special council meeting.
Dear Mayor Zaragoza, Mayor Pro tem MacDonald and Council Members Perello, Teran, Madrigal, Basua and Valenzuela,,
I submit these written comments because unfortunately I will not be able to attend the special Council meeting due to a scheduling conflict (6 p.m. Public hearing on Airport Study on Noise).
I read with interest UCLA's report: "Paving the Pathways for Oxnard's Future - Securing the Well Being and Success of Young Adult Residents." I was impressed with the depth and breath of the Survey and the Report. There is a wealth of information that can be gleaned from this report regarding Oxnard's young adult population, how they see themselves, their aspirations and goals, where they are employed and how they see the future and what it holds for them. I was particularly interested in the Recommendations - both for the OUHSD and Oxnard College. It is no secret that over the years the Ventura County Community College District has not treated Oxnard fairly in terms of the allocation of resources and programs for OC, as compared with the resources allocated by VCCCD to Ventura and Moorpark Colleges, both of whom serve smaller student populations with much greater resources.
I trust that you will be ready to pose inciteful and thoughtful questions during the presentation, and then will use your knowledge and the report to start a serious conversation with the College and high school district regarding the concrete steps that must be taken by these institutions and the City in order to ensure that our youth will have the best chance possible to achieve their goals with respect to their education, training and employment opportunities in Oxnard and Ventura County.

I am hopeful that the information and data contained in the report will light the way to a positive future for our youth going forward. We owe it to our youth and young adult residents to advocate on their behalf, and strive for good outcomes for our people. I am confident that together the community can make great strides in the right direction. Please ensure that this report is the beginning of an active and assertive approach with our educational partners. I trust that this report will not be left on the shelf to gather dust because as a community we simply cannot afford to leave our youth behind.
Thank you for your interest and action!
Si se puede!
