I am writing to express my opposition to the Colonia Townhomes project under the Pre-Application Review.
Oxnard does not need more townhomes Oxnard does not need more housing development. What our community needs are more resources, more green spaces, and more investment in the people who already live here.
Oxnard is already the largest city in Ventura County, with over 200,000 residents. By comparison, Ventura has about 110,000, Camarillo roughly 70,000, and Thousand Oaks just over 125,000. We are leading in population, yet we are lagging far behind in amenities, parks, and youth spaces.
As someone who grew up playing soccer with AYSO Region 304 on the Northside’s Fremont fields, I can tell you that those same fields have barely changed in decades. We played on uneven grass, full of potholes, and parking was always a challenge. It wasn’t until I traveled to other cities that I realized how much better maintained and well-equipped their sports parks were. Oxnard deserves the same level of investment and pride that other cities show their communities.
Instead of approving yet another housing track, this space could serve as a much-needed sports park, community space, or safe gathering area for our youth. Camarillo has a beautiful sports park why can’t Oxnard? Why can’t Oxnard finally get the kind of community space our residents have long deserved? Please be creative leaders. Think about what truly serves this community. Will 200 more townhomes make life better for Oxnard families? Or could something different something built for the people, not profit make a lasting difference?
Respectfully,
Blanca

Hello Mayor and council members
My name is Robert Gonzales I am a resident of Oxnard and a descendant of the original land grantees pre 1860 Rancho el Rio de Santa Clara land grantees.
121 townhomes units on old Sunkist site is a bad idea. The first thing is that where the old Sunkist factory was located it is zoned for industrial agriculture and not for housing. It shouldn’t be changed to allow these 121 units to be built. It would cause traffic congestion and would be a huge problem putting that many people in one small place especially if you’re going to put a carport and walls are you closing off Colonia neighbourhood one of the oldest and largest communities.entrance leave this historical property alone and use the money from the Insurance from the Old Sunkist factory to build the new housing buildings in colonia neighborhood that were demolished to make way for new housing. I believe Maulhardt or borchard own that land too can they just do that. W
e have the perfect building waiting to be used the old levitz building that can be converted into housing if developers want to build a housing complex. Writing to you as a citizen a family member of original land grantees please do not build 121 town homes on old Sunkist factory site it is historical land and should be preserved not used at all put a historical marker it is part of one of the oldest neighbourhoods pre 1860 included land grantees map and Eduardo Gonzales and his wife Augustina Perrot and their baby he is family and is the one Gonzales rd is named for thank you for your time.

Now we need jobs not a giant traffic jam. This is one of the busiest intersection as there are train tracks and Oxnard Blvd. We need to consider resources such as water for so many to live and no jobs. Only one of my classmates was able to have a career in Oxnard. Most like me had to work / and move to Los Angeles. Our current president is focused on increasing the number of items made in the USA. Low income housing has not caught up with the times as many low income households cannot afford them and property owners rather pay fees instead of creating low income housing. As we watched on k street and 2nd street the number of low income homes decreased during the application process. In other words the land owners said they would be so many low income houses but in fact built a lot less low income houses and now the houses have decreased the asking price by $20k. They don’t even have A/C units. In several countries A/C units are required in new builds as well as solar panels. Please take time to carefully consider all the issues.
Thank you,
Lisa Corona

Subject: 10/7 G. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA AND NON-ACTION ITEMS From: Teresa Savi

My comments on items not on the Agenda are as follows:
I agree with the idea of retaining legal counsel to benefit members of our City that are caught up in the most recent push to detain non-documented immigrants, directly via an agreement with the Law Office of Vanessa Frank.
There was an idea to partner with the Ventura County District Attorney’s office. I think that working directly with attorney Vanessa Frank might give the City of Oxnard more leverage to provide direct services to Oxnard residents.
As for the elevator in the parking structure that Mr. Stein mentions frequently, I am concerned for Mr. Stein’s safety. Isn’t there ample street level parking at the City for most meetings? A working elevator in the parking structure at this particular time in the City’s history would serve as a private space for nefarious activities.
I’ve attempted to walk the stairs in the structure for exercise with my dog and have come across a variety of people in various states, seeking privacy. A security person in a truck advised me to avoid the area due to unsafe conditions. I told him about a man in the stairwell who had just been sick… If the elevator is returned to working condition it will have to be monitored, actively. I think it should only operate for limited periods and be locked out most of the time. It might be better for the security officer to be on foot for most of the time when watching over the parking structure. Driving around the structure is one thing but walking the stairs and walking around the structure would be a better deterrent.
Thank you for including my comments,
Sincerely
Teresa Savi

Development of the property on colonial road at oxnard boulevard. Thank you! Councilmembers, Input for your consideration:
Consider any combination: 1) A food truck coral, 2) A building divided up whereby small, local businesses, artists & startups can rent to get started, 3) Youth Fellowship House (Place to participate in activities after school/spring summer breaks etc), 4) local community pool primarily for the residents of the neighborhood.
Learn to swim, senior wellness, kids/teen/family activities. 5) A nice park. You can never have too many parks! Respectfully,
Bill Karr
