Update Job Classification for the Director of Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Position.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Move to adopt a resolution approving revisions to the job classification for the Director of Parks, Beaches, and Recreation.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The City’s Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Department Director, Mike Perez, has announced his retirement after 31 years of service to the City of Pacifica. The retirement is effective at the end of 2022. In preparation for the upcoming recruitment, staff reviewed and revised the job classification for the position that has not been updated for 20 years. The PB&R Department Director job description has been revised to reflect updated characteristics, duties and responsibilities, and desired skill set for the position.
Staff recommends that the Council adopts the attached revised job classification that has been reviewed by the City Manager’s Office, Human Resources Department, and the current incumbent.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION:
Do not approve the recommended revisions to the job classification or provide staff with an alternative direction.
RELATION TO CITY COUNCIL GOALS AND WORK PLAN:
The recommended action is consistent with the following Council goal:
“A Strong City Workforce Infrastructure” includes strategies to address employee retention and attraction challenges, engaging staff in decision-making, and recognizing staff.

There is no fiscal impact to updating the job classification. There are no changes to the compensation for the Director of PB&R position, which is included in the budget.
