1 SUBJECT:
Appointments to the Beautification Advisory Committee; Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee; Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission; and Planning Commission RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1) Move to appoint one (1) applicant to the Beautification Advisory Committee for one full term to expire March 2028;
2) Move to appoint two (2) applicants to the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee for one partial term to expire May 2025 and one partial term to expire May 2026; 3) Move to appoint one (1) applicant to the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission for one partial term to expire May 2025;
4) Move to appoint two (2) applicants to the Planning Commission each for full terms to expire March 2028.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The City has recruited applicants for the Beautification Advisory Committee; Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee; Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission; and Planning Commission to fill vacancies due to:
1) one expiring term (as of March 2024) on the Beautification Advisory Committee; 2) two vacancies on the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee for one partial term to expire May 2025 and one partial term to expire May 2026; 3) one vacancy on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission for one partial term to expire May 2025;
4) two expiring terms (as of March 2024) on the Planning Commission.
Recruitment notices were posted on the City website on January 17, 2024, and published in the San Mateo Daily Journal on January 24, 2024, and January 31, 2024.
The application deadline of February 2, 2024, was extended three times: first to February 9, 2024; second to February 16, 2024; and lastly to February 23, 2024.
The City received one (1) timely application for the Beautification Advisory Committee; four (4) Pacifica City Council 2

timely applications for the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee; one (1) timely application for the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission; and five (5) timely applications for the Planning Commission. The list of applicants under consideration for each committee and commission are attached.
Interviews were conducted by the City Council at a Special City Council Meeting on March 19, 2024.
Selection Process
Lists of all applicants under consideration for each committee / commission are attached as Attachment A - Beautification Advisory Committee applicants, Attachment B - Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee applicants, Attachment C - Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission applicants, and Attachment D - Planning Commission applicants.
Council may choose to deliberate as to the candidates that they would support to nominate for appointments to each of the open Committee or Commission seats. Council should then make a formal motion to appoint named applicants to each committee / commission. Each formal motion should specify which named individual(s) are nominated for appointment to full terms and which named individual(s) are nominated for appointment to a partial term of specified duration, if there are multiple positions to be filled for differing terms.
