BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
On June 10, 2024, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) released a call for projects for the 2024 Pedestrian and Bicycle Program Cycle 7 Grant Program. The Cycle 7 Pedestrian and Bicycle Program will release approximately $19 million in available Measure A and W funds.
The bicycle and pedestrian improvements along Oceana Boulevard has been identified as a potential project eligible to receive grant funding. The Class II bicycle lanes on Oceana Boulevard between Milagra Drive to Clarendon Road is a priority project from the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. The bicycle lanes will connect to key schools in the area and to the future bicycle lanes that are a part of the Manor Drive Overcrossing Improvements Project. In addition, the project will install ADA curb ramps and high visibility crosswalks.
The total request from the grant on this project is estimated to be in the amount of $2,000,000.
City required matching funds are discussed in the Fiscal Impact section of this report.
As part of the grant application, it is required to include a resolution authorizing the support and submittal of the application, and committing matching funds. The City Manager recommends adopting the resolution in support of the application submitted for the SMCTA Cycle 7 Pedestrian & Bicycle Program.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION:
Alternative Action would be to not adopt the resolution which would disqualify the submitted grant applications.
