BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

Child Care Services is in an annual contractual agreement with the San Mateo County Office of Education to provide subsidized state preschool programs at three school sites. Council action authorizing staff to have on-going responsibility and authority to work with the San Mateo County Office of Education, and the California Department of Education Early Education and Support Division regarding the program’s contract is required. Currently, Recreation Services Supervisor Tracy Gilbert has this authority and will continue to facilitate this process. This includes: processing the annual reapplication, submission of monthly/ quarterly requests for reimbursement, attending semi-annual and annual training session, authorizing families to receive subsidized care and ongoing communications with the state representative of the Early Education and Support Division.

The annual contract from the San Mateo County Office of Education is for providing subsidized State Preschool classes at Sunset Ridge State Preschool, Fairmont Park State Preschool and Vallemar State Preschool.

The San Mateo County Office of Education requests a Council resolution authorizing participation in the 2024-2025 contract and naming an authorized representative.
