Appointment of Mayor Pro Tem
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Appoint a Member of Council to serve as Mayor pro Tem.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
At the regular meeting of the City Council on January 27, 2025, Mayor pro Tem Mary Bier announced her intent to vacate her position as Mayor pro Tem and would follow with a letter formalizing her resignation as Mayor pro Tem. On February 5, 2025, Mayor Pro Tem Bier submitted a letter wherein she stated her intent to resign from the position of Mayor Pro Tem effective at 7:00 p.m. on February 10, 2025. (Attachment A).
The City Council discussed and provided direction for the process of Mayor pro Tem appointment to be followed at the February 10, 2025. The following process was agreed to by the City Council:
1. Staff Report presentation & City Clerk explains the process for appointment of Mayor pro Tem to be followed at the February 10, 2025 meeting.
2. Public Comment on Agenda Item related to Mayor pro Tem appointment.
3. Mayor calls for Interest from any Councilmembers in Mayor pro Tem position.
4. Council deliberation and discussion regarding appointment of Mayor pro Tem based on the individual interest expressed.
5. A Councilmember makes a Motion to name an individual to appoint as Mayor pro Tem.
The Motion and Voting procedure will be followed as described in the Council Rules & Code of Ethics, Section 7 “Deliberation and Voting” and Section 8 “Motions”.
The City Clerk will explain the above process during the presentation of the staff report prior to opening Public Comment and Council deliberation on the topic.
RELATION TO CITY COUNCIL STRATEGIC PLAN:
Review of this issue is not part of the FY 2024-25 workplan and does not directly relate to the City Council 2023-2030 Strategic Plan.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact related to the Mayor pro Tem appointment.
