The project was originally scoped to replace all pier handrail panels, including a collapsed 40-foot section rendered unusable by high tides and wave action in early 2021. A 2023 Pacifica Municipal Fishing Pier Condition Assessment Report was performed to analyze the repair. The report showed damage beyond the handrails of the pier and additional repairs to the girder, deck, and piles will be needed.
