Present: Councilmember Jan Harnik, Councilmember Gina Nestande, Mayor Evan Trubee, Councilmember Karina Moreno, Mayor Pro Tem Joe Pradetto
1. CALL TO ORDER - STUDY SESSION
A Study Session of the Palm Desert City Council was called to order by Mayor Trubee on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, located at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California.
2. STUDY SESSION TOPICS
2.a Potential Drone as First Responder Program and Real-Time Crime Center Daniel Hurtado, Public Safety Analyst, introduced Chief Deputy Ken Reichle, of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, who narrated a PowerPoint presentation and responded to City Council inquiries.
During discussion, the City Council discussed privacy protections, program effectiveness, implementation strategies, and regional cost sharing, and expressed support for receiving additional information regarding funding and implementation options at a future meeting.
2.b Dave Erwin Park Project Update – Design Progress, Budget Assessment, and Strategic Options
Ryan Lamb, Senior Project Manager, and Shawn Muir, Community Services Manager, narrated a PowerPoint presentation and responded to City Council inquiries.
During discussion, the City Council discussed park amenities, project timing, escalating construction costs, reserve impacts, and the feasibility of completing the project in phases versus a single build out, and expressed interest in receiving additional information regarding project components, financing options, and final construction costs associated with full build out of the community park at a future meeting.
