PREBOOKING AND RESERVATION SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Prebooking and Reservation System Overview
Core Idea
Introduce a phased parking reservation system that allows customers to reserve access to airport parking lots (A, B, C, and D) in advance.
Reservations guarantee entry to a parking lot. Not a specific space.
Objective
Make parking easier and more predictable by:
• Reducing congestion and circling for parking spaces
• Saving time for guests
• Providing a guaranteed parking option, especially during the peak season
Why This Is Needed
Parking challenges at the Airport are largely seasonal. During peak travel periods, such as the winter seasonal resident influx and major events, parking demand often exceeds the capacity of the primary parking lots. This leads to:
• Traffic congestion
• Overflow parking
• Frustration for customers searching for parking spaces The reservation system helps manage these peaks by:
• Distributing demand before customers arrive
• Providing advance visibility into parking demand
• Allowing staff to better manage lot capacity
• Reducing pressure on drive-up parking
While most beneficial during peak periods, the system remains optional year-round.
How It Works
1. Parking is reserved online in advance
2. Pricing is reviewed and paid upfront
3. A digital credential (license plate recognition or scannable code) is received
4. On arrival, the customer enters the selected parking lot using the provided digital credential
5. When returning, the customer exits without additional payment if within their reserved time
6. If the reserved time is exceeded, the customer pays the difference upon exiting
Pricing Strategy
To encourage early reservations:
• Advance bookings may be offered at a lower rate than drive-up parking • Prices can increase as demand rises closer to peak periods Benefits include:
• Encouraging early planning
• Reducing day-of congestion
• Improving predictability of parking demand
• Supporting long-term adoption of the system
Operations
• Daily monitoring of reservations and lot occupancy
• Ability to limit drive-up access when lots near capacity • Direction of drivers to alternative lots when needed
• Maintaining a buffer to prevent overbooking
• Coordination with parking operations staff (ABM)
Implementation Approach
• Start with a small pilot program
• Evaluate performance and customer feedback
• Expand gradually based on results
Future Enhancements
Using reservation data, the system can incorporate predictive analytics to:
• Forecast demand
• Improve planning and staffing
• Optimize pricing and availability
This approach enhances the customer experience, reduces congestion, and allows the Airport to better manage parking during its busiest times while remaining flexible year-round.
