There was general consensus from both groups, • High Energy Balance • Restful with some minor differences:

The public much more strongly skewed towards a playful design direction. Public Merchants favored the high-eneray end and the public a more restful 25% 50%

This points to finding an agreeable balance between these two. • Both groups favored a contemporary style over the Googie style presented as 'midcentury' on the boards, but there was some nuance in the comments. Guidelines
Introducing: The Cal Ave Signage Program URBAN FIELD
Establishes a consistent visual identity for the district, informed by public input. • The system includes a set of modular signs, which provides flexibility for various viewing distances and contexts. Guidelines and templates for implementation are packages with this document.

Wayfinding signage modules are designed primarily to help pedestrians to navigate to/from side streets and back parking lots.

CAL. AVE DINE - PLAY
The system also includes concepts (see upcoming slides) for a gateway sign at the intersection of El Camino Real and California Avenue, making the appeal of the district more apparent to passing vehicle traffic.
