CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
REGULAR & CLOSED SESSION MEETINGS SEPTEMBER 24, 2024
In her “Did You Know” segment, the Mayor discussed the City’s history of relying on special taxes to fund capital improvement projects. She discussed the 1983 10% utility tax that ran a total of 20 years until 2002 and provided almost as much revenue as the parcel tax that was in place at the time. It was replaced in 2003 with a special sewer tax that ran from 2003-2013. There have been no dedicated revenue sources for capital projects for the past 10 years, though funds from prior year operating surpluses have been set aside.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT
City Manager Kallman reported ongoing issues with the city’s Granicus system which is affecting our ability to livestream and post recordings of public meetings. While this is resolved, tonight’s council meeting was being recorded and available on Zoom.

Chief Hellinga provided tips on how to make one’s house unattractive to burglars and announced the department is selling pink patches for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Proceeds from this fundraiser that is being run by the POA and not city resources will go to a detective in Inglewood that is battling breast cancer.
