Agenda Item 6 Support for CCC contract + Arroyo Seco Trail Revitalization The CCC contract to help clear out unwanted vegetation and tree branches to reduce fire hazards in the Arroyo Seco is a wonderful idea. What would make it even better is to coordinate the efforts with local environmental groups like the Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy to clean up some of the trails in those same locales. This would obviate the need for more expensive and unnecessary trail grooming in what are natural environmental areas.

And what many people prefer when visiting the splendor of our beautiful Arroyo Seco wilderness areas.

RE: Sponsor Agreement with the California Conservation Corps Agenda Item 6
Dear Mayor Gordo and Members of the City Council:

I am writing on behalf of One Arroyo Foundation to express support for the Council action proposed on today's Council Agenda to approve an agreement with the California Conservation Corps to remove non-native vegetation from the Arroyo Seco. This relationship with CCC promises to be a valuable resource for the City's effort, and the mission of the One Arroyo Foundation, to enhance and preserve the Arroyo Seco.

We believe using the CCC for work in the Arroyo is an appropriate use of a maintenance workforce and will strengthen the land use vision in this precious resource.

We appreciate City staff seeking to partner with the CCC and One Arroyo looks forward to their influence on the One Arroyo Trail projects.

We encourage City Staff to continue to monitor maintenance practices in the Arroyo to preserve the natural environment and we expect the relationship with the CCC will be a further step in this direction.

Thank you for this opportunity to address this important agenda item.

Very truly yours,
Dan Rothenberg
Chairman of the Board
