City Council 2-14 Item 8 (Reproductive Freedom Resolution) CAUTION : This email was delivered from the Internet. Do not click links or open attachments unless you know the content is safe. Report phish using the Phish Alert Button. Learn more ....

Dear Mayor Gordo, Vice Mayor Wilson, and City Councilmembers, I write regarding Item No. 8 on your February 14, 2022 , agenda. I urge you to adopt the resolution declaring Pasadena a City of Reproduc t ive Freedom.

Reproductive and sexual freedom are fundamental, const itut ional rights in America. We are faced with the very real possibility that five or six justices on the current Supreme Court of the United States will reject a half century of preceden t which has been approved time and again by more than a dozen justices of both major political parties. It is a stark rem inder that our constitutional freedoms are vulnerable to the whims of a few controlling j ustices. In the face of this threat to our fundamental rights, it is essential that we as a city take a stand in support of liberty.

As a member of the board of directors of Planned Parent hood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley , I am proud to say that Pasadena is home to a nationally known , respected, and trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care , including abortion. If, as appears likely, the Supreme Court allows states to ban th is basic freedom, people seeking competent care will look to California. We must send a bold message that the City of Pasadena is a champion of health equity and reproductive freedom for all, and we welcome anyone seeking to fully exercise their reproductive rights , including access to safe, legal abortion.

Dear Mayor Victor Gordo and esteemed City Counci l,
I write to you in sincere support of passing a resolution that declares Pasadena a City of reproductive Freedom at the council meeting on Monday. It saddens me that the City and, particularly , our friends in the health department have endured countless claims that masking and vaccinations trample on our personal rights. That government has no right to tell people what to do with their bodies, yet these same people want to use the apparatus of government to control women's bodies.

Let's present a brave Pasadena that actually respects freedom and freedom of choice .

Thank you.

Best,
John Doyle (he/him)

Dear Mayor and City Council members ,

Abortion rights are under attack and we must fight back to protect and expand access to safe, legal abortions -- not only in our state, but in our community.

I well remember the days of back alley abortions and the physical and emotional damage done by them . They were the only possible solution to terrible situations resulting from rape, incest and health tragedies. Women I knew suffered irreversible damage. It would be incredibly cruel and wrong if women alone would have to bear the serious repercussions resulting from lack of access to reproductive choices. But until men bear their share of this responsibility, the least that can be done is to provide these women with the means to choose what is best for those personally impacted by the situation .

Dear Mayor and Counci l Members ,
I understand that the council will take up a resolution that would declare Pasadena a City of Reproductive Freedom . As a participant in the October Planned Parenthood drive/march, as a donor to PP, I fully support this initiative . While other areas of the country look more and more like The Handmaid's Tale, Pasadena has this opportunity to take a public stand for the justice and equity dimension s of reproductive rights.
