In addition, he asked staff to provide a cost comparison analysis between tiny villages and motel vouchers per night, and information on congregational land opportuni ties, requesting that the matter be agendized at a future Committee meeting for further review and discussion. He also requested that staff consider developing friendly competition for restaurateurs for the best designed outdoor dining area, with incentives for creativity, included with staff’s recommended outdoor dining design standard.
Chair Hampton voiced support for a “design award competition” and encouraged staff to involve the community (i.e. PUSD, Art Center College of Design), suggesting that each business district take the lead on collaborating with the community in designing and concealing the K- rails. He stated his preference that outdoor umbrellas be relatively the same color to keep with the cohesive design; and thanked staff for the fantastic work and investment in the community and business districts.
Vice Mayor Wilson requested as efforts continue with the implementation of the design standards to consider providing the restaurant owners with a design prototype, stating this would also be a great opportunity for social media marketing.
