PROCESS
Interim Police Chief Moody answered the following questions:
How many officer involved shootings has Pasadena had in the last five years? Including 2016, the Pasadena Police
Department (PPD) has been involved in eight officer involved shootings (OIS). Five resulted in fatalities; one was non -fatal; two were non-hit incidents.
Did all shootings go to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office (DA) for review? Only OIS resulting in injury require DA review.
However the DA Command Post is notified of an OIS in
accordance with the PPD’s Lexipol Policy 310.
How many officer involved shootings are still pending with the District Attorney’s Office? There are four OIS investigations still pending with the DA, one from 2019, two from 2020, and one from 2021.
Did the Pasadena Police Department (PPD) wait for the District Attorney to respond to all cases before completing its internal investigation? Only shootings invo lving injury require District Attorney review. The PPD waits for a clearance letter from the District Attorney when officer involved shootings result in injury. What is the status on new body worn cameras? Police Chief Moody confirmed for Cou ncilmember Hampton that police will receive new cameras in March 2022. The cameras will include a new feature to automatically turn on once a service weapon has been pulled. The feature will also activate cameras of officers who are close by to the incident.
